VWBPE 2024 Spotlight
Presented: March 16, 2024
Presenter: James Neville (Sitearm Madonna)
Co-Presenter: John O’Connor (Acuppa Tae)
Categories: Multimedia Communication and Multifaceted Interactions
The purpose of this presentation is to think of identity as a choice, not just something we are born into by circumstance of birth and inheritance. This is identity by assertion. Virtual worlds afford the opportunity for a more fluid concept of self: identity with intent. Understanding this approach can empower our actions and results in the virtual and natural worlds. The authors draw on fifteen years teaching this topic in SL as part of a class on collaborative online engagement.
Objectives:
Participants will be able to understand and adapt identity by declaration to their own initiatives.
Participants will be able to understand the relationship between speech acts and self concept.
